"And then they were gone into the fog"

Wednesday, 8th of February, thanks to some very talented Slovenian dude from 19th century, was a work-free day. Due to some fresh snow, we decided that it would be worth spending it outdoors in spite of not a great weather forecast which anticipated a foggy day. So, where to? Let's do Bašeljski Vrh today.

We start our hiking trip around 8ish in Mače, a small village close to Preddvor. Did I mention that it was a work-free day? Well, not really. I had a conf call scheduled for 10 am, thus a goal was to make it to Kališče's hut by then. Kališče is a popular destination for many locals, so it was not a surprise that we ran into quite a few hikers who were either making their way up to the hut or who were already in a rush to get back down to the valley.

10 am, we have a checkpoint at Kališče, with me running around the hut trying to find a good reception. Meanwhile, my mates find out there nobody has yet been up to Bašeljski Vrh today, meaning that we would need to make a fresh path. My call ran a bit long and when we finally leave the hut an hour later, we discover that somebody outran us and started making a path. How lucky are we? :) Following their steps, we soon catch up with them and together we summit, hoping for fog to diminish. Not so lucky, I guess the weather gods were taking care of sunny weather elsewhere. A cup of tea, few photos and a frozen phone later, we are ready to take off and follow the same trail back to Mače where we call it a day.
