"Earn your turns"

Sunday, early morning, time to dig out touring gear and hit the mountains. While eating breakfast, all the weather websites had to be checked, just for in case there is some fog sticking around from the day before. Seriously, what's up with this fog these days, isn't it supposed to just chill in the valley? A sneak preview of sun slowely starting to peek out, provided by Monte Lussari's webcam, set the destination.

Monte Lussari (Višarje), just a few kilometres away from the boarder triangle of Austria, Slovenia and Italy, mainly known of the santuary which is set at the top of the mountain and of the ski resort, also happens to be popular for ski touring.

We park at the bottom of the cablecar, gear up and start touring the pilgrimage route, which leads its way all the way to the top of the mountain. Passing through the woods, covered with nearly fresh snow, we enjoy the winter fairytail and the 2 hour climb with almost 1.000 m of ascent passed super quickly and we got awarded with yet another breathtaking panorama of Slovene and Italian Alps, including Mangart, Cimma del Cacciatore (Kamniti lovec), Jof di Montasio, and other surrounding peaks. Every time I am up there, the view just blows my mind. Not to mention that they have a really good Latte Macciato in one of the restaurants in the Monte Lussari village. :) Sipping Latte, looking towards Cimma del Cacciatore and thinking how great it would be to go up there as well, but not today.

All rested and ready to go, we started skiing down the 4 km of "Di Prampero" slope. The piste did not disappoint...it was not crowded and as always, groomed well, so skiing down was pure joy, even though in the last segment of the slope my legs gently reminded me that they have already done some work today. Yup, had to earn those turns.

Yet another great day spent outdoors, filled with conversations about travels and good food. Well, time to grab some dinner.
